Fruit

Fruit gave birth to me.  My grandpa wouldn’t have migrated to California if it wasn’t for labor in agriculture.  Bananas for  breakfast, figs for snacks, grapes used in medicinal remedies, and  lemons used for lemonade are some of the ways my abuelita has shown me how to use fruit.

Every summer when school let out, my mom would befriend  bundles of grapes under the hot sun.  But it is because of grapes she received her meals. It is because of fruit her family paid bills but most importantly, it was those summer grapes that motivated her to stay in school.

Yes, fruit gave birth to me.  I’m just in college now, but someday I’m going to be a successful_____And when that day comes, I will remember my humble roots and thank one thing: Fruit.
