I have forgotten something…?

Is it my keys?

Hell no, I don’t drive

Maybe my wallet?

Well I got no dough

‘cept what I need to stay alive.

My cell phone?

Who cares, no one calls

My cigs or a light?

That must be it!

But here are some camels

And a tiny red bic.

Have I forgotten the stove

The sink or the oven?

Can’t be true, it’s fast food

That I’m always McLovin.

Have I forgotten my dignity

my pride or my grace?

Had I any of those

there wouldn’t be egg on my face.

Have I forgotten how to feel?

No I’ve wept plenty of times

Is it how to write?

Of course not,

I always bust rhymes.

Was it mother or father I forgot to call?

No, if it were my phone

Would ring right off the wall.

Perhaps I forgot today was the day

I was trying to listen to what you had to say.

What?

Did I forgot my homework?

No I never do that.

What could it have been?

It feels so important

So powerful and close

Yet when I try to find it

I get so verbose.

Or was it something deeper, more sublime

And more patient.

Something that knows I’ll get there

When I make it.

Was it a power that has always been?

And loved me and kept me

When I wanted to give in?

Maybe I forgot to collect all my timber

For fires that burn to keep me…

aww shit…now I remember!
