Funk
Angie is in a funk
Each day the same
Wake up
Too hot black coffee
Burn Tongue
Numb tingling
Forget to feed the dog
Wear shirt inside out
Realize this during lunchbreak
Cry.
And there’s nothing to do
Cause each night’s the same
The full moon ushered in with gin and ice cream.
A cycle ingrained in her circadian rhythms,
Irresponsible.
Irrevocable.
Understandable.
The shrink says she has Daddy Issues,
Doesn’t everyone?
They are too overprotective
Too disconnected
Too this
Too that
Tit for tat.
A cosmic carousel of payback
With the end always the beginning,
You pay for that ticket
Wanting to feel the cool breeze
Around and around
But time speeds up
And as the last grains of sand settle
There you are again,
Your problems waiting like a faithful dog
Infidelity never on their mind
They will hug and squeeze until
The reaper’s blade snatches you away
No matter how many times you spin
Around and around.
So Angie’s in a funk
But aren’t we all?
Something wrong with this poem?
