Funny Things

It's funny, when people ask you if you're sad and you just smile, and say "no", and they walk away, satisfied, Thinking that they were mistaken That they misread the moment of pain, depression, loneliness, that slipped out in your expression. It's funny, because only you can understand How much it hurts to hold everything in. But you refuse to let anyone know So it stays, festers, destroys. But you are so happy, so positive, outgoing and beautiful, to everyone else. It's funny, because you feel as though you can handle it; When you know you can't. You think they can't either, so you don't give them a chance. It's funny, because even you can fool yourself sometimes. Into thinking, believing, hoping, that it will all go away. And you smile, you laugh; You exist. Because it's easier to pretend, than explain.
