The future

When the days seem long

and the nights too short

I sit up awake and think of what the future holds.

The sounds of little footsteps, soon to cease

the little voices, the breathing soft and sweet

The little kisses and tightest hugs

The moments that will fly right past

Soon it will be homework, and dates and Prom

Then college and majors and work and they're gone.

Right now though the hours are dust until dawn

I will hold on to them tightly, until the morning come.
