The Future

It’s big and it’s scary,

the future,

and I’ve spent most of my life

with some books and a teacher,

and sometimes I sit up at night and wonder,

is what I’m learning

really going to help me from going under?

Because reality is different,

this life we live won’t always be

about studying and ace-ing the test,

but more about knowing that you’re blessed

and giving one’s best

and never attesting to second guessing.

Your decisions are your own,

and although we are taught

that with money comes happiness,

I’d like to disagree

with this small-mindedness.

I want to do what I love,

and do something I’m proud of.

I don’t want to fall short of

any dream I’ve thought up,

because this is my life.

And I don’t want to end up just being someone’s wife,

I want to be a treasure

a pleasure

and someone you’d want to measure,

up to

Because what I want to do is sing.

I know it doesn’t really have a ring,

to it,

and it’s something that’s become quite hard to admit,

because when you say it

you just get that look of holy shit,

she’s going to end up homeless,

but I refuse to quit

because it’s what I love

and it’s something I want to make a life of.

I want to teach music,

and preach music,

and show the world that if you reach,

far enough,

it won’t be too tough

to get to where you want to be.

And life, life isn’t a guarantee,

each moment

someone or something is lost,

so stop worrying about the cost,

and try to exhaust

all of your days,

because each one could be embossed

with some memories.

So yes, the future is big and scary,

and I am nothing even close to ready,

but one day,

one day,

I will be,

and nothing will stop me.
