To the Future

Dear Future,

Late at night

sometimes

I think of you

Of all the things I wish for

And all that I plan to do

I’ve been through terrors

hurt

and so much despair

Yet I regain hope,

For I remember

You’ve always been there

Sometimes, I’ll admit,

The notion of you seems rather bleak

But many more times

Your presence overwhelms me

With joyous possibility

Your gentle voice

Guiding my daily actions

Lighting me up from within

You remind me of why I work so hard

You remind me of where I’ve been

But most of all, future,

You give me aspiration

I long for you

Though it may sometimes be

With a bit of apprehension

So worry not:  I’ll safeguard you with all my ability

For You’re my only hope

And my largest responsibility.

Sincerely,

Me
