Future
Future
Orphic dreams dance in my heart
The future is no longer in black and white, but in color
An August alizarin, amaranth, and amber sunrise illuminates our room like a stained glass window in a church
He holds my hand and smiles
We stroll through the yard, enjoying aromas of fresh pine shavings, Timothy hay, and dirt.
Dreams are more real than we think
Excitedly, they gallop out of their stalls to the pastures
Dreams are more real than we think
Children run around the yard chasing the chickens
Dreams are more real than we think
Dogs wag their tail, excited to find the bird
Dreams are more real than we think
They graduate, finally feeling free from the “oppression” parents give their children
Dreams are real
Happy Birthday! I turned 71 today.
His weathered, tough, soft, wrinkled, tender hand takes mine. We smile.
Little did I know when I was 17. That was no dream. That was real.
