The Future is Female

The girls who watched with eager eyes

Television sets and magazines

Glowing skin and tiny waistlines

Luscious hair and curvy thighs

Don’t be too thin,

Don’t be flat

Boys want a little something there

But don’t even think

About getting fat

Muffin tops never

Got a modeling contract

While you’re at it, bow your head

Beauty beats brains any day

All that thinking might cause stress

And you wouldn’t want to break out

Try these pills, they said

They’ll help you lose weight

Or maybe just stop eating

Or just get a smaller plate

But what they never told me

Is that behind the beautiful

Façade was a

Strong

Smart

Vocal

Woman

Perfectly made by God

So shed that weight,

The weight of society

That burden that you bare

And step into a future

A future that finally cares
