Future Ledges
My future is a pregnant mountain
Overflowing with unexpectedly
Anticipated change
For the Kicks
Of hidden highways
Black tar escapades
And intestinal change
Painted on broadening sky’s
Sends vicious bile
Burning, bleak tears
Down my acid face
With the rippled voices
And icy eyes of past doubts
The gestating opportunities
Of cracked knuckles
And polaroid cheeks
Splayed upon divides
Of generation and wealth
As the future churns along
Sprawling canyons
Protruding and kicking
With blundering doubt
Smothered in sweet summer smoke
Gas station rendezvous
and rattling lights
Along a winding path
All painfully new, creased cavern
Zippered highway and falling rocks
As the peaks burst through clouds
Like a divine fresco painted
In adolescent misery and hopeful
Inklings for a future unseen
It grows though desert rain
Broken windshield
And freezing nights as
I see my future like a
Temple of western promise
For I drink from cool rivers
And touch the delicate streams
Of a formulating consciousness
Taking over my limbs with
The glee of a remembered teenage dream
