The Future is Now

Upon us the hour has come. It’s the future!

No waiting, or wandering, or sharing of dreams.

Such hopes they once had, oh such hopes for the people,

But sadly the future’s not all that it seems.

More lying, more stealing, more shame and more strife.

Such sadness upon us! How thick is our greed!

To think this fine dream world could once have been glorious!

Freedom for people! That once was our creed.

But now we’re stuck wondering where has it gone,

While children of violence lie dead in our streets.

Much simpler the day of the dreamer has passed.

We’re now in a world filled with anger and cheats.

We all run so busy that no one can cope.

We don’t have the time and so nobody cares.

Our children are taught by electrical dope.

Well, this is the future, but I’m getting scared.

I long for the days when a nap was the norm.

When sick days were spent getting better, not working.

When life was much simpler and friends were around.

And rarely was stress of the day always lurking.

But here I am stuck in the fast running future.

And though there are times I can’t keep up the pace.

One day will come when this life will be over.

I’ll have fought the good fight and have finished the race!
