FYI, I Am

I  am far from any definition of perfect

I am no queen, princess, or barbie.

There is no bar code or price tag attached,

I am a girl with beauty and brains, and that is hard to match.

Although I do not reflect what the media portrays as perfect,

I walk through any area with my head held high.

But never becoming biased,

Always remembering the times I have fallen from the sky.

I profit from every inch, foot, and pound of me,

To my deepest and darkest scars that have made me who I am.

Basking in the brown skin I take the utmost pride in,

No one can take away the light that I have fallen in love with from within.

No man will be granted the power to make me feel disgrace,

To down size me because of next one who is in place.

No woman will have permission to turn my flaws into new insecurities

I will not fight the things that I have already fought that only project beauty.

My beauty will get me noticed,

but my hard work and dedication is what will get me hired and promoted.

Ambition and adherence will get me there,

but good faith and positive energy will allow me to succeed.

Getting through high school was one task,

and I know college will be much harder.

I know God wouldn't have gotten me this far,

to not take me farther.
