Gal Pal

To J -

You are my laughter,

my soul, my crutch,

I only wish you had seen me as much,

For the prospect of being with me repulsed you.

I don’t know how I do it,

how I can live day to day

knowing you will never see me the same way.

It’s a weight almost too heavy to carry

It’s not fair of me to want what I want out of you,

I know,

But if I ever tell you I know you’d hate me so,

And nothing would ever be the same.

How can I be angry at you?

Throwing my snide remarks and jeers

to allude to my worst fears,

I should just date other folks to move on

You remember your old best friend?

It hurts to see history repeat

since you know all too well the taste of defeat,

and you had leaned on me for comfort.

We’re both still so young,

You make me feel like I’m already too late,

calling the girl you just met your “soulmate”,

I haven’t met her but she seems like a keeper

This is selfish,

I’m a terrible friend,

You should really cut our relationship to an end,

but you live in ignorant bliss.

I know she’s the one whose company you prefer,

You’re still the one who owns all of my trust,

But I guess I’ll learn to adjust

in enough time.

Despite all my efforts to prove you wrong,

and my trying to get your heart to stay,

At the end of it all I’m the one you say

is like a Sister to you
