The Game of Love
The words he spoke were polished to perfection
Viciously ripping from his tongue, almost naturally so
That was it: it had to be
The entirety of his speech was merely rehearsed
His words seemed to cause him comfort; almost in a pleasurable manner
His tangent ended in a wicked, satisfactory grin
It was all going as he planned it, I’m sure
Those few words rekindled the fire I so desperately wished to distinguish
Gasoline drenched my erupting thoughts, no longer contained in their dark corner
The inevitable realizations began to restrict my every breath
I was left gasping for any attainable air, pleading for an escape
I found none
The words gained speed as they vigorously shook my brain senseless
My ears were ringing, echoes of his promises appearing as a distant dream
My heart throbbed with the most insatiable agony
While I was blinded by the elusive idea of love
My naive heart dominated my entire being, allowing him to play me for a fool
It was all a lie
Every smile
Every kiss
Every touch
Every shred of happiness
Just gone
He had played his game
And he had won
