A Gem in Monochrome

When the sky is a muddy gray
Casting whispery shadows to dampen up the day
   in a cold, pessimistic sigh
It's easy to see a bright, brilliant world
Fall short and become a murky place of insecurities
   and lost opportunities

When the sun fails to warm
Our sensitive skin with that usual gentle kiss
we've all so come to cherish
The world becomes a place that holds no love
And a place that we somehow come to fear
when we forget that light burning brightly

When the breeze is harsh
A hard slap against our cheeks instead of the caress
   gentle Spring so usually entails
Kindness in this world is forgotten
And we instead take for granted all these little gifts
   the world gives its children

The world is no gentle place
It is not meant to coddle nor to punish
no matter how much we believe otherwise
But like the loving parent, patient and firm
This world is full of a brilliant love and a bounty of good
that we forget when things go bad, when things go wrong

This world is full of small miracles
And these blessings are the small things
   you always tended to forget
Like the hello of a beloved friend
Of the kiss of a parent, or the cry of your pet,
or the gift that is your life, and the world it lives in

This world is full of blessings
And always are such gifts forgotten
when they're taken for granted in times of trouble
And we allow ourselves to turn a blind eye
To the brilliance of the world we live in every second of our lives
through the bad and good alike

Sometimes there will be hurt
Surely there is no way for us to be immune
to the loss and the tears and the screams
By our hearts when surely it is hurt
Be it by love or by some cruelty by person or thing
   or even ourselves

Let it be remembered
That while there does exist pain
in this multifaceted world we live in and call our own
That with pain and sorrow comes its polar opposite
Let it never once be forgotten ever again
that joy isn't there for us to be showered in

Simply because the sky is dull today
Doesn't truly mean that the world has lost
the vibrant colors that burst into tune of beauty and life
The sun doesn't always need to be warm
Nor does the breeze need to always be gentle
for the world to be a place worthy of living in

The world will still hold its miracles
And the world will certainly still retain
   its blessings and its joys
Even when the world seems colorless and bleak
All that's left for you and I to realize
is that our world is still so beautiful, even in monochrome
