Gemstone

"Only one," they had said, as if it were an

unspoken rule.

I, who had friends like piles of sand,

never understood.

But now I see, though I don't agree with 'One',

that only two do I spill my heart to.

Only three do I trust,

never to be frustrated.

And only four did stay with me,

while sudden breezes scattered flecks of sand.

And may a fifth come to light,

I will still always see,

that not every grain is a gemstone to me.
