Generation 21st Century

Generation 21st Century by Shyloe Mitchell

Every time I turn around I see what our generation today has come to

Saggy pants, tight clothes, the I never really loved you.

We talk down about each other because we have low self-esteem,

We may look happy on the outside but things aren’t always what they seem.

See, were so quick to talk and we don’t know what a person’s been through,

Whatever happened to the love, the I’ll always be there for you?

You’re Gay. You’re Retarded. That’s all we ever say.

So many different words to use, yet we use them anyway.

Were 14 to 18 yet were drinking and getting high,

We compromise our lives and settle with just a “getting by.”

On a daily basis we take for granted the things we got,

Until one day it’s there and the next day it’s not.

Be careful what you wish for you don’t want to grow up too fast,

Be young and enjoy it now because it’s not going to last.

All everyone is talking about is who is having sex,

But have you really thought, “What usually happens next?”

We look to someone else for an answer we can only give,

So you let someone else define you and the way you choose to live?

Now I’m not sayin life can’t get you down, cause “life aint no crystal stair”

But that can’t control you Never live your life in fear

We are different unique in our own way but we are all HUMAN!!!

So why is it we feel we have the right to put people down then?

You’re ugly. You’re fat. You’re stupid. You should go kill yourself!!!!

But what we fail to realize is were no better than anyone else.

We don’t think about the things we say until it’s too late,

The hurtful things we say, yeah some people determine that their fate

Ever wished you could take back something hateful that you said?

Now you regret it so much cause your best friend is now dead.

Ever heard that old saying’ “sticks and stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me?”

That’s a bunch of B.S because look at what words have done lately.

It’s caused hate a word rooted from oppression

The main cause of depression.

We go by the motto, “land of the green, home of the free.”

But after lookin around at our generation is that really what you see?

No, it’s not because all you see is outright violence

People being put to shame and livin their lives in complete silence.

So what we say can affect one another

We need to ask ourselves, “Is this how I talk to my mother?”

If it is, then we need to work on ourselves and change

Because if we don’t we might as well pour our lives right down the drain

Now we aren’t PERFECT and we shouldn’t aim to be

But we should all make an effort to live in harmony!!!
