Generation II
Remember when your grandparents said
Back then everything was settled with a fist fight
And their parents didn’t let them disrespect
When everything was fine in a time of hardship
What happened to that way?
Did it just fade over time?
Or did everyone change because it was “cool”
Is peer pressure the reason for all of this?
Because this generation...
Is so far gone
Some of us can barely make it out of high school
Let alone get into a good college
In our generation
Guns are as easy to get as gum
And drugs are sold on the corner like newspapers
How did this take over our lives?
The young men are so busy being “thugs” or “gangsters”
That they can’t even pick up a book and get their education
And the young women are too busy trying to please those young men
That they can’t see what they’re really worth
They are becoming Baby Mommas
With dead beat Baby Daddies
“I’m in these streets. Grinding for my baby.”
But your baby is with their momma starving
She can’t keep a job because she can’t read
She thinks she is too grown to listen to her mother’s advice
Yet and still she is hanging around a dumb nigga like you
That will never be anything. If he stays on the path he’s going.
Then the Daddy is put in jail
For killing somebody on the block.
The baby grows up without a father
But still wants to be like his daddy
Momma doesn’t really care about her child
Just let him do anything he wants
He ends up in the streets
And the cycle starts again
But there’s a twist
Out selling dope on the corner
And “POW”
Baby goes down
Momma finds out and she’s crying
Now she sees how the other parents feel
Losing their child before they even touch 18
If only she knew…..
She could have changed it all
If she kept in her books
And found a nice, smart, respectful young man
She wouldn’t be burying her baby at the age of 16
But it’s this generation
That influences the next
And it’s generation that can pass the test
The test of survival and no more genocide
The test that we can be better than before
The test of putting down the guns and making peace
The test of making the next few generations
Better than anyone can ever be
