The Gentleman

The boy who yelled, "Iwill never be crude,"

Is the same man who always says, "Dude."

The boy who said, "I will buy my girl a flower,"

Is the same man who always says, "I won't give that girl the hour."

The boy who exclaimed, "No two people are the same!"

Is the same man who lets stereotypes fill his brain.

The boy who wondered "Will I always smile until I'm numb?"

Is the same man who cries "Where is the man the boy said I would become?"

This poem is about the change we all noticed that we had undergone while making the change from childhood to adulthood.
