Get Better Soon

Getting up at 6 a.m.

Hungry and thirsty, but can’t eat or drink

Getting dressed and nervous about what’s about to happen to me

Finally dressed gray sweatpants and a hoodie

I see black pavement with yellow and white writing

Above is all orange as the big ball in the sky begins to rise

Finally to the place where I never wanted to be

The registration desk is the first thing I see

I knew they had been expecting me

Immediately I’m asked to change into a gown

That’s usually when people’s smiles begin to go upside down

I change into the gown and take a deep breath

“You’ll be fine” my family says

I am asked all these questions

What’s your date of birth? Are you nervous? Any questions?

I answer them all and it’s time for the moment

I lie on my back and get a mask put over my face

Are you ready?
