Get Out

Dear Stutter,

You’re far from dear to me

Why did You have to show up?

Can’t You just hide away forever?

Everyday You make me more anxious

You make me imagine all the worst case scenarios

And then I go back to building the cocoon

I don’t even want this cocoon

But You forced me to build it!

I wanna have fun, I wanna talk to people

But all because of You, I can’t get social enough

Do You really have to show up

Every time I try to turn up?

Even when You’re not around

I get terrified that You’ll ruin everything in a heartbeat

And on those days I think You’re not overbearing, and I don’t have to pay attention to You,

You draw all the attention to Yourself

And leave me hanging

Do you know how much I want to get rid of You?

Do you know how happy I would be?

Do you know what I can accomplish when You’re out of the way?

Do you know how much negativity I’d escape without You in my life?

Do you know how much more comfortable I would be if You just left?

Well now You know how much better my life would be without You
