Getting it Right is Getting it Wrong
Love
It’s not perfect, because I’m not perfect
But I know what it isn’t-
Abandonment, cruelty, verbal abuse
Manipulation or just a lack of communication,
Causing me to think for hours on end about what I did wrong.
It hurts to think of you not being here
But the pain is worse when you are
So that’s not love.
Love
I finally find a soul that laughs with me, and not at me.
I make a mistake
They tell me how I can do better.
We started as an imperfect match with a passion to be together
Yet slowly, we’re mending ourselves into a better puzzle piece.
I have to learn how to say their actions hurt me
But the more open we are about our feelings, the more attuned we become
So love isn’t getting it right,
It’s the willpower to change when you get it wrong.
