Getting Older

More of chores

Less of cartoons

Getting older.

More to do.

I got a job,

Applied for scholarships.

That's when I realized

I'm not a kid.

You know you've gotten older,

When your parents want rent.

Summer vacation

Was more like summer vacant.

My future seemed blurry.

I couldn't comprehend,

My childhood was actually coming to an end.

It was time to get serious

Time to focus, make decisions.

Time to plan,

and truly understand;

I must stop holding my mother's hand.

As I look back at my younger years

I've realized what they say is true

Enjoy your kid years

Because they'll be gone soon!

I grew up,

Not exactly glowing.

I'm still learning

So I need more growing.

I drink coffee now

Didn't do that as a child.

I'm different

Not the same

All work and no play.

But that's OK.

I don't do the same things that I did

Way back when I was a kid

I'm going to college!

Going to earn my degree.

That's something my younger self

Would have never believed.

I didn't think I could

But I am.

I would have never guessed

That getting older,

It's for the best.
