Ghost
This time is like no magic before,
unimagined power and warmth,
love like sun heating every last inch.
Your smile lights up all the dark,
your tears drown everything,
your grace and caring more than I could ask.
Everything here is so bright and wonderful,
an eternal beauty that never dies,
blistering its way into a permanent center in me.
Your arms around me knock all else away,
your lips soft as petals,
wearing away any past remorse or hesitation.
But there is still this feeling,
this ghost of a feeling,
that maybe it will happen again.
Maybe I will hurt again,
die a little more inside;
maybe I will suffer again.
This time would be worse,
so much worse than before,
because so much is invested now.
There is so much feeling involved,
such a deep well of caring,
the result would be devastating.
That ghost feeling steals my mind,
itches beneath my rib cage,
takes just enough breath to cause struggle.
But it is what it sounds like,
a ghost feeling only,
that may or may not come to pass.
So for now I will not dwell
on the worry the ghost causes.
