"Ghost" by Michelle Kpekpe
I see the ghosts of the past. Their misery haunts me to the
Bone. There are holes where their hearts should be and they have no shadows
They don’t hold any hate for the ones who hurt them, they just pray that they will change. They are
Pained to know that not many have changed. But I tell them that there are a small few who are kind. They are the light flecked
In the darkness. The ghost tells me that a little is enough. They say that by
A few years they will make a change it may be small but it will be the
Sun in the dark space of humanity, like the roses
Amongst all the weeds. They are happy. I then notice little bits of sun coming through the ghost. It is like flour coming through a strainer. The sunlight is sifting
Through them and little by little they are becoming more transparent. They will leave me but i wasn’t sad but tears came streaming through.
