Ghosts

I know I play the tuba, so easily forgotten,

But that doesn’t mean that you can forget I’m there.

My assignments are on time, I listen to your lectures,

But you just don’t know I’m here

The loud ones, those who draw the eye,

They get the learnin’ they get the evil eye

With that evil eye come attention, and awards and praise

Those who are forgotten get their grades

This idea that those who speak a little less and listen a little more

Can be pushed around and used is wrong.

Things need to change.

There is a crusade on bullying,

But it is forgotten that there are the invisible ones

Those who ghost through the hallways

The teachers barely catch a glimpse

So focused they are on those who are more solid

The ghosts are forgotten

Hovering on the edge.

The classroom, so full of life

Is not so promising for them.

Some teachers try too hard

To be liked.

They listen to the loud kids,

And laugh and joke.

While those who aren’t

Get overlooked.

Why is it that those leaders in these many lives fail to even see them?

They look right through

Not truly seeing

What is right in front of them

I know that I am quiet, but don’t I deserve some attention?

I swear it won’t take too much time.

Teachers, remember all the students in your classroom

Not just those,

Who call you to them.
