Ghosts and Wanderers

Is it never good enough? We each have our skeletons Our demons Our haunting memories The pain The self-loathing… Why? What does it prove? What is its purpose? Why is it there? Conformity The soul is individual The heart, fickle The mind, sensible Yet it’s always the mind that says, “blend in” “don’t stand out” “hide” And when we fail to heed this most conscientious part of us When we trust the soul The mind and heart cry in unison when it goes wrong But when we trust the mind and fail The same happens The soul will rail against the prison And the fickle heart is far too unreliable His is the path that oft leads to pain The roads started in good faith but lead to pitfalls And broken dreams This is where that hits home… When you can’t trust in yourself You become a ghost A phantom of a person Barely existing But always lingering around Direction is what these apparitions need One that liberates them from their cares and worries One that allows them to be themselves One that puts them on the path to joy But sadly there are many who never find that path Many remain mundane Many become depressed When will there be light for those trapped in that ethereal darkness? I know not, I’m just a wanderer One with a destiny unknown But every day I see ghosts Trapped in illusions, needing someone to pierce the veil And reveal a way…
