The Gift
Sitting in her third grade classroom
Staring at the blank sheet
Glancing out the open window
Swaying with her feet
The little girl sees a birdhouse
Standing proudly on a pole
Her mind begins to open
As the ink exposes her soul
A new road shows itself to her
A new way to share her heart
All onto the blank paper
Her teacher was the start
Childhood poems about childhood things
Bubbles, clouds, and dogs
A poem to say goodbye to a house
A poem defending Santa Claus
Youth begins to show its pains
Heartaches of a teenage girl
Poured out on paper wet with tears
Love with nowhere to go in the world
Why didn’t he want me, Why didn’t he love me
What was the point of life
The ink was always there to release it
Ink instead of knife
The little girl turned into a woman
With many more pages to write
She’s learned that poetry is a gift
Where souls are allowed to take flight
