The gift that keeps on giving

The release of words as I spill my soul
The emotions pour out as my story unfolds
The pain I've felt, the hand I was dealt
What gift has god blessed unto me
One that keeps giving, can't you see
I write for sanity, a solitude some peace
The words keep flowing and put me at ease
No rehearsal needed, no point In a rough draft
By letting this poem go, I feel free at last
I've never considered what poetry means to my life
It's been second nature to me, like breathing naturally I type..
When my mom got cancer I expressed my feelings in words
When I came out the closet, this is how I was heard
No family, no hope, just words and a pen
Entering a random poetry contest in hopes that I win
Two in the morning, shouldn't I be sleep
I've attempted to close my eyes, but the pen still has ink
To grace the world with my reasons of explaining what poetry means to me
More like I AM poetry in motion
Explain how that has come to be?
