The Gig
F Dominant Sharp Ninth – Acknowledgment
My saxophone and I itched with anticipation,
"Blue Train" we called out.
The drums gently throbbed a smooth chant,
And we settled into the familiarity of the soft introduction.
The music caressed us as we eased into its bliss.
B Flat Dominant Sharp Eleventh – Impressions
A trumpet spoke.
We listened, entranced by its strength and power,
It gained intensity, growing louder and more boisterous.
We fed upon its energy and felt its music flowing through us,
As it climaxed to its high point on a wave of emotion, we spoke.
F Dominant Sharp Ninth – Ascension
The wave came crashing down and we roared into the music,
We screamed and we shouted and we whispered and we joked and we sang,
We bled into the night and soared among the heavens,
We were invincible.
We pouted and we cursed and we created and we bantered and we cried.
C Dominant Sharp Ninth – Crescent
They watched us and cheered,
They came and congratulated and hugged and kissed.
They saw that we had been changed by the music,
We were stronger and bolder and laughed more easily.
It was a great night.
