The Girl

There once was a girl
Who smiles so wide
It makes you forget
The darkness that lurks inside

She seemed so happy
So carefree and relaxed
But her demons were waiting
Were ready for attack

They took her smile
And stole her tears
They stomped on her worth
And relished in her fears

This little girl
With the mega watt smile
No longer seemed happy
After awhile

Her smiles were broken
Her heart battered and bruised
Her pain in the open
Her fears were their muse

The beat her
And bruised her
Killed her inside
But taught her
To keep it
Taught her to hide

There now lives a girl
Whose smile is distraught
Her brilliance diminished
Her happiness is lost

She continues to think
And dwells in it still
Of what would have happened
Had the demons been killed

Would she still smile
Would her brilliance be lost
Would she keep living
With less of a cost
