To The Girl Afraid To Speak

Dear girl afraid to speak,

I swear to you that everything

Will fall right into place

When things seem like they just don’t fit

Your foot will find its pace

The sky may feel too empty then

To comfortably contain

The sun that you so beg it for

While standing in the rain

I don’t know what your voice sounds like

You won’t say what you feel

I understood and understand

The classical appeal:

Emotion is vulnerability

But that is the only way

To let yourself be, in peace

Or else your heart will fray

So let your own rain fall, in words

Speak; don’t hold a doubt

Your sunshine front can’t last so long

Or else there’ll be a drought

It’s far better to get your hopes up

Than have none, due to fears

And this is all I have to say...

Love,

Yourself in a few years
