To the Girl He Chooses

He's all I've ever wanted,

He's the kind of beautiful that doesn't stop or slow down when the world goes up in flames

Treat him accordingly.

Make sure you share tour headphones when he asks

Because more than anything, he wants to know what speaks to your spirit-

That's what music is, isn't it?

Pay attention to his hands;

Trace his lifelines and his veins with your finger, but assure me that you'll tread lightly

He's stronger than anyone you'll ever meet,

But make no mistakes, he's still breakable.

Tell him his eyes are grey and not blue, he likes that.

Hum softly but not so often,

Speak truthfully and kindly, but make sure you tease him,

He loves a good sense of humor.

Wear your hair down,

As long as you're okay with his fingers twirling the strands between themselves.

When he's sad

Do not

Do NOT

Let him believe that he is broken.

Believe in his ability to find the light an stitch the seams back together.

And if he can't, you better learn to sew.

And remember:

He's all I've ever wanted

And someday,

Somehow,

I'll have to let him go.

Trace his lifelines,

But promise you'll tread lightly.
