The girl in the mirror

 She stares back at me

No smile, no laughter, no light

A dark cloud hours above her head

And a steady drop of words hit her

Ugly, fat, short, boyish

She flinches with every word

Her bushy eyebrows scrunch together

Tears rim her eyes

Why can'r she see me?

The girl with the long, straight hair

Wearing the cheerleading outfit

Laughing with her group of friends

The girl who now shines in the classroom

Unafraid to stand up for herself

Blushing at all the compliments

Beautiful, healthy, feminine, intelligent

But she refusues to see the truth

And I refuse to leavr her behind

She will see the magnificance

That has always been

Soon she will accept the truth

She is brave, strong, loved

And because of her resilience

I am who I am today
