To the Girl in my Train Car

the girl on the train

Taking the Lincoln Rail or County Line Rail
(I don't care which)
I looked upon your mahogany hair
Contrasted by your limestone eyes
With the familiarity of my childhood house
The home that shaped everything I would become

Well, I call it home
My stint in it was brief
But there was love in its foundation
Made it the sturdiest home I've ever had
Even lead my neighbors to believe
It would stand in perpetuity

I too wanted to
Envision a home that could stand the test of time
But a foundation of fruitless passion
Still cannot change uneven terrain
And one morning a sinkhole swallowed it whole
Leaving me with nothing but a pit of memories

But I'm not talking about a house
I'm talking about the girl on the train
Or maybe the one in that town
(I don't know which)
