Girl in the Red Scarf

What are you doing?

I see you every day in the same class, doing the same thing. Looking up.

What are you looking at? Is there something on the ceiling?

Are you high?

What is your name? Why do you always wear the same scarf? Is red your favorite color?

Your deep black hair is always down flowing over your shoulders.

Your skin has been that pale even in August.

The snow now piling on the big clear windows behind you and yet you still find the ceiling more interesting.

No one else in your class seems to mind or notice that you have this strange infatuation with the things above you.

Is there writing up there?

And if it is, it's most likely been there all year so shouldn't you already be bored with it?

You sit back in your chair in the back of the class and just look.

Doesn't your neck hurt?

Every day during 6th period you just look.

Have you learned anything in that class?

Does your teacher ever say anything to you?

I’ll stop asking questions though.

Cause I think that's the problem with the world.

We always want answers to questions we don’t need answers too.

I think one day I’ll walk in that class,

And look at the ceiling with her.

Next to the girl in he red scarf.
