Give It a Shot
Ignorance really is bliss.
In my elementary school years
I didn't have to kiss
my mom goodbye
because I was afraid
that I may not see her.
That I might not even come home.
I didn't have those fears
when I was little.
But now I can't even go
to school without being fearful
of what I might find
in the environement where I'm
supposed to feel safe.
Ignorance really is bliss.
I used to believe everyone was good.
They just had rough days
sometimes.
But now I think differently.
The things people are capable of
make me quiver and shake
and have my wondering about
the decisions they make.
What could be so wrong
in their lives
that they would
end someone else's?
Is it in his nature
to hate?
Ignorance really is bliss.
Knowing how many people
have lost their lives
this year
due to gun-violence alone
is enough to make
anyone in their right mind
shake and groan,
with grief,
with desire to put an end
to shootings.
A desire to change
how things are
right now.
I don't feel safe anymore.
This is America, where
the Statue of Liberty
is supposed to welcome
everyone in with
open arms,
not open fire.
We're supposed to be
the good guys.
We're supposed to be safe,
be free.
Protect each other,
protect America,
protect our freedom
and liberty.
