Give Me A Pen
Give Me A Pen
Give me a pen, I wish to try
the dancing, twirling,
swirling, of lines
that others do. I wish to try
that creation of worlds
lands, animals, people,
like you can do.
Give me a pen, I wish to shed
the pain of bullying, changing,
hiding behind lines
that show who I am. I wish to shed
the fear of other’s
opinions, their knives of words,
like you can do.
Give me a pen, I wish to practice
sending it spinning, creating,
defining the lines
into beautiful images. I wish to practice
this newfound creativity in
showing expression through pictures
like you can do.
Give me a pen, I wish to define
who I am now,
With drawing and creating
those expressive pieces of my
soul, heart, and mind. I wish to define
myself as an artist,
in every work of art I create.
Give me a pen, I’m on my way
to becoming what I wish,
a fully fledged artist,
Photos, drawings, paintings. I’m on my way
to defining myself in creativity.
Give me more than a pen now;
a camera, a paintbrush, a pencil.
But always give me a pen.
I won’t forget the start
of who I am,
I won’t forget that
first attempt, the first time
I touched a pen.
Always give me a pen.
