Give them Hope for a Brighter Future

'Give them hope for a brighter future!' Hope falls from your lips as toxins pour from your fingers You were supposed to be our examples You were supposed to teach us right and wrong You have taught us wrong We have learned right on our own We have fought through your lies and your promises and now we stand bloodied at your throne And you ask us why we did not bathe You have taught us that we are free You have taught us that our history shines We have shown you that underneath the perfect, gilded exterior lies rot A foul mass left to age in the shadowed corners of knowledge you never wanted us to have With knowledge we are powerful You know this We can feel your fear You try to downplay us as lazy You say we can't save money We scream 'what money?' You don't raise minimum wage You charge a thousand dollars for an ambulance ride Five hundred for an EpiPen You must think the sick are weak, to be weeded out The sick are strong together You have raised us sick You created a plague of illness and ignorance and we will haunt you to your last breath You have raised us angry You are out of time to atone for your sins You are out of time We were raised on the blood of those you crushed beneath you You will be the next to fall You're too late It's your time to burn
