The Giver

the girl in the corner

hugs her pink dinosaur

nobody pays attention

to the love she tries to give

holding the photograph

of the girl in the corner

I stare into my own eyes

that used to emulate joy

but through blurred lenses

the clearer picture is blinding

So I ask the little girl

who thought the world was so small

questions of vulnerability

how can she afford

to give her love away

to a stranger

she tells me

love is always needed

even if never returned

it must radiate
