Glass Dolls

Once upon a time, very long ago
We were all glass dolls --
Beautiful and colorful
Imperfections and all

Once upon a time, very long ago
Colors mixed together
We found our matching color
Invisible red thread tether

Once upon a time, not so long ago
Red thread pulled, frayed
I watched you walk away
Further, further you strayed

Once upon a time, not so long ago,
You pulled me off the shelf
I shattered on the floor
Lost pieces of myself

Once upon a time, just the other day
I gathered all my parts
Taped them back together
All except my heart

Once upon a time, just the other day
I found the missing space
It belonged to someone new
Who became my saving grace

Once upon a time, just today, it seems
I learned that sometimes friendship
Can grow, sustain, and live
Eventually transform into a battleship
