Glass Heart
You found her on the bedroom floor with bloody knees and bloodshot eyes
And glue behind her back.
Sometimes you took turns throwing the glass figurine,
Back and forth, a game of catch and drop.
Chipped pieces of love tore through your palms and she left red stains on your body
Sometimes you wanted to smash it on the floor and sweep it under the rug because love shouldn’t feel like this
But you were scared that loneliness would hurt even more than glass in your lips
So you held each other close and became blood brothers.
She dropped it four-feet from concrete but she was
Just trying to wipe off the dust, and she didn’t mean to
And you had a ring picked out and everything.
You can’t even remember what the damn thing looked like
But God, you remember how it felt.
