A Glass Reality

"Once upon a time" and "happily ever after",

A beginning and end,

A life of love, gaiety, and laughter

Something too far from reality to even comprehend.

The year is 2017 and Cinderella is at home

Scrubbing, squeezing, and repeating.

Her hands are focused but her mind starts to roam,

What would life be like without this beating?

On Instagram, she attended balls and smiled

Her stepmother and stepsisters by her side

No question about the appearance, so wild,

Or how she had so much trouble sleeping at night.

Sure her life wasn't so bad -

She was happy, healthy, and living

But without the love of a dad

It's hard to keep on giving.

In this day and age

The idea of slavery and abuse is forgotten

But then arises this rage

As people finally see the truth - so rotten.

You may watch the movie on Netflix

And scroll through the news on Twitter

But what you don't see in these "pics"

Is pain and torture - not sweet, but bitter.

Our world is so flawed and broken

We must not give up or stop

The truth remains unspoken

Society has become a flop.

But the new generation, the youth

Have the power to fix this

The inequality, the violence, the truth

Can all be solved, oh sweet bliss.

Cinderella found her Prince

Her tale ended with love and laughter

Our world can find its

So we can have our happily ever after.
