Glass Wall
Encased behind a glass wall I scurried about my days,
Squeaking when I felt your cold and sterile gaze.
Your face behind the glass would scrutinize my life,
Silently appraising me, the 'specimen', with the conviction of a knife.
Your crisp, clear voice came over loudspeaker,
Analyzing each of my molecules to make me meeker:
Your stomach is too thick. You should get that fixed.
You aren't smart enough to understand, so don't pretend it clicks.
You're too emotional all the time, and your hobbies are so silly!
You should wipe away your tears and fix yourself, really.
I wonder if you ever knew what you looked like from these round eyes
Or if you even realized you were one I didn't despise.
It's true, it hurt to be as a subject treated,
but I'd have loved you just the same if you'd stopped being so conceited.
If you'd opened up the cage for me and let me feel your warm hand,
You might have found the data that you couldn't understand.
Your observations and scribbled charts will never give you peace,
For what you seek is something unconcrete, in which change will never cease.
Love is rough and ugly, frustrating at times,
but that's the only way two hearts together can chime.
Imperfection is what makes our connections true,
and that kind of relationship is what I never got from you.
So to you, the one I cherished from behind a glass wall,
I'll say goodbye and begin my search for a love that entails all.
