Glimmer in the dust

With feeble knees and trembling feets made weary by the gruesome journey I embarked on for the past 364 days. I can feel cold sweats trickling down the corners of my moist face. Standing on the rocky hills of my uncertain fate., I took a doubtful peek into the city to which I'll migrate I wouldn't be amazed if it seems bleak and vague. Any place would be a perfect replacement for the city from where I came. A city of greed that thrives in sin. Where the chances of survival are slim. The ones you love and cherish are all deceased. That's the city where I once lived. A city where success is sin, Where the streets are littered with shattered dreams. You go to bed hungry but wake up to feed the rich. You're are starving and smiling and all you get is a sly pat on your weary shoulders. "It's OK, you'll make it through this" you keep hearing. That's the city I once lived in. Don't ask me why I'm leaving I know exactly what I'm doing. For hundreds of days I embarked on this journey to go give my life some meaning. I'm headed for a city of promise Where the land flows with milk & honey. Though my strength may fail me But I'm resolved I'm not stopping Until at last I make it. This city you see, is not just any place. It's a place heavily secured with twelve golden gates Even the gruesome journey of 365 days, Is worth the glory of the city whose streets are beautifully paved. Right from the hills where I stood I saw., An army of heroes, warriors and survivors. Racing apace along their trail Like victorious soldiers returning from the battle ground, they raced. From the bruises on their faces and the scars which they had, I can tell that they're the remnants from the city of my past. And they, like myself are migrants headed for the promised land. Immediately my tired jaw went agape. I was greatly amazed at how swiftly they could race at such an unusual pace. As fast as the wind were they. Raising dust along their paths as they triumphantly ran pass their past in haste. This alone added some pillars to my shaky faith. Just one more day and I'll be out for good from this city of pain. No sooner than these warriors were only ten yards away, I took a cursory gaze through the haze & the fog, I was struck with shock by what I saw. Right there, in the middle of the thick swirling blur of dust, was a tiny little glimmering piece Dangling like pendants suspended from a pendulum. This left me in a state of momentary oblivion I must now swiftly Leave this valley of indecision. And pay the price for a better future. No need to tarry here any longer I've got the only pointer I need to keep going further. This light at the end of the tunnel, Is a sign that better days are drawing so near. And this glimmer of hope, like snow drops on hot coals, Have melted away all doubts & obstacles to my goal. The city ahead, is sure gonna be better than the one behind. So my friends, would you rather be left behind? Looking back, calculating the ruins from the past is a waste of time. So come on lets race together leaving the past behind. Cos with the dust from the city behind is a faint glow of hope. With the living, there's Hope And anything is possible as long as there's breathe going through your nose. Although tommorow nobody knows, Yet we ain't afraid of any foes. Cos we know the one who knows what tommorow holds. This dust may be a rust, a loss, dreams burried in a frost or what you ought to be that you're not. Then comes the glimmer - a faint glow of Hope, That gives you the guts to face tommorow standing toe to toe. There's certainly some dust in your life, yes this i know. Howbeit., there's a glimmer in the dust this I really hope you know. Emmanuel Momoh © 2018
