A Glimpse Inside

So, you want to know who I am?
Are you sure you can handle the answer?
So many answer this question with the usual:
I am a daughter, a sister, a friend, a student, a worker.
I am tall. I am an animal lover. I am a nerd. I am shy.

Yes, those things are all true, but only on the inside.
But that's not who I really am. That's not who I am on the inside.
Inside, I am a mess.
My mind goes a hundred different directions all the time.
Inside, I rebel against everything that has ever been put on me.
I shed the stereotypes that have been with me since day one.
Inside, I break the rules.
There are no consequences for my actions inside.
Inside, I worry about things I cannot change.
I can't deal with having no control.
Inside, I wonder how life would be if I had made different choices.
Would I be the same woman I am today?
Inside, I have control over my life.
I don't have to listen to others' opinions on my decisions.
Inside, I have no filter.
I say what I want, think what I want, without fear of causing trouble.
Inside, I'm screaming.
At least there, someone hears what I have to say.
Inside, I lose it sometimes.
There's only so much that one person can take.

On the outside, I look like a normal girl.
I'm calm, quiet, collected, polite.
But if you delve beneath the surface, you'll find a different story.
So when you ask who I really am, be prepared.
You might not be ready for the answer.
