Glow-up, Grow up

Withdrawn from the only life I knew

Ashamed of who I thought I had to be

Conformed to others image

Reluctant to make new friends

Didn’t feel comfortable being myself so I tried to become somebody else

Afraid to be confident so invisibility was my only hope

Uncomfortable in crowds and alone

So I continued to fade into the background

Background filed with insecurities, unchecked validation, doubtful, anger, hurt

Being uncomfortable was so that my skin began to shed like a snake

Hair pulled, belittled, disrespected

What’s happening

Is this love?

Is this the validation I been seeking?

She awakens.......

NO

This is not love

I am not a car why do I seek validation

For I am confident, empowered, secure, beautiful, worthy

I am no longer moved by people’s actions or lack of

I decided who stays and goes

I decide my worth is far above value

I refuse to trade my authenticity for approval
