A Glow-Up Party
Sweet sixteens,
The epitome of celebration in the sophomore year.
Like other girls, I too wanted a party to commemorate sixteen years of life.
Glow-Up: this was the theme
a pun of a party.
Pictures placed here and there would recall regretable stages in my life
All the while my basement and party guests glowed in a black light.
I thought this was very clever-
To celebrate my growing with an assortment of glowing items.
Balloons, tablecloths, bracelets- you name it.
I spent so much time planning a party that was going to last three hours
... kind of silly in hindsight.
I decorated a whole wall in sticky notes- that took five hours alone
I painted balloons with glow in the dark paint, and proceeded to string and hang them across the ceiling-
this took several more hours.
The playlist took two more hours
why is it so hard to make a good playlist?
But I enjoyed it, planning every last detail.
And the anticipation... there is nothing more excting then anticiption.
The party date finally came.
only about half the people invited showed up.
it was kind of lame.
people didn't look like they were having fun, even after all my effort.
i
wanted
to
cry
But I held back my tears and resolved to make the best of it.
And I did, it was fine after the first hour.
But I guess that's life.
People work so hard for things, put in so much thought, put in so much effort...
and some people just don't care.
and then we feel like garbage.
But the only people that we should care about caring is ourselves.
If we cannot allow this lightbulb of an idea to glow
Then we as humans can never grow.
