Godly Breakups

They liked to tell us a lot at youth group

'relationships with God always succeed'

so when we got together

two pure christian kids

I really thought that we were in it for the long haul and only things stronger than our wills could rip us apart.

I mean, God literally told me to initiate the relationship.

Obviously, his hand was on our relationship the entire time...

Right?

and yet, it didn't work out.

Meanwhile the girl next to me in French class bragged profusely about her sex life with her neanderthal of a boyfriend and they went on dating for longer than anyone could have imagined.

She told me that she had looked up to us as the ideal couple

little fights, big love

So it doesn't matter how much you cling to them and do everything right before them and before God

Some people fit together and others just

don't.

Now that being said, I don't reject God and what I've been taught in church because I've learned that 'it doesn't matter'

On the contrary

I learned that it does matter.

What I'm saying is that just because you pray and pray and pray for a situation to work out one way does not mean that it will.

God's plan for each of us is perfect and sometimes it includes hard truths and unexpected turns that are used for growth.

I say all this because it is important to understand that you can do everything right

according to your morals and to your faith

and you can still fail

It's called growing pains for a reason.

You don't know it yet

you may never know it or understand it

but you needed that

because one day your smile will be wider and deeper than any failure or heartbreak you could ever experience

You'll look back and realize that relationships can be Godly but so can breakups.
