going away

captured in a photograph

she was so pretty, too

but you couldn't see her eyes real well

and how they were so blue

you could not see the glimmer there

that showed up when she talked

wouldn't know how she would spin and dance

when she tried to walk

you couldn't see the face she made

when she was confused

or when she couldn't contain herself

her lovely silly moods

you wouldn't hear her genuine laugh

that went on without an end

until one day she covered it

with her self conscious hand

folded arms and guided eyes

she got so insecure

i wish i could convince her though

and make her feel more sure

she became afraid to be herself

and doubted all she did

i loved the times she was okay

before she went and hid

i'd craddle her into my arms

and try to make her feel at home

she'd say she didn't believe my words

and that she felt alone

her tears ran wild and oh so much

a lot without a cause

when i'd ask what was bothering her

she would stare at me and pause

"i know i should be happy

i have so many reasons why

i love this life i've been given

i don't know why i always cry

there's something wrong inside of me

i want it to go away

but when you ask how you can help

i don't know what to say"

the girl there in that photograph

i fear i will forget

but i know she's part of me

there's nothing to regret
